The School of American Ballet (SAB) is a world-renowned ballet school in New York City. Founded in 1934 by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, SAB is the preeminent school in the United States for the training of professional ballet dancers.

History

SAB was founded in 1934 by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, two of the most influential figures in the history of American ballet. Balanchine was a legendary choreographer and Kirstein was a noted impresario and critic. The two men had a shared vision of creating a school that would train dancers in the highest level of ballet technique, while also providing them with a comprehensive education in the arts.

The school opened its doors in 1934, in a small studio in the heart of Manhattan. In its first year, it enrolled just 12 students. Over the years, the school has grown and expanded its facilities, and now boasts a roster of over 300 students.

Curriculum

The School of American Ballet offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes technique classes, repertoire classes, pointe classes, and variations classes. In addition, the school offers classes in music, art, and academic subjects, as well as a range of electives.
