Dance Theatre of Harlem is a world-renowned dance company located in New York City. Founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook, Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) is a multi-cultural dance company that has become one of the most influential and respected dance companies in the world.

Dance Theatre of Harlem was founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook. Mitchell was the first African American male to become a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, and Shook was a former dancer with the New York City Ballet. The two had the vision to create a dance company that would bring together the best of both classical and contemporary dance styles.
The company quickly gained recognition and acclaim for its innovative choreography and performers. In its first season, the company performed at the White House and the Kennedy Center. Since then, Dance Theatre of Harlem has performed in over 30 countries and has been featured in numerous television specials and films.
