Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) is a world-renowned ballet school located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1963 by Marcia Dale Weary, CPYB has become a leader in classical ballet training, offering a comprehensive program of instruction in the art of ballet for students of all ages and levels.
CPYB was founded as a nonprofit organization in 1963 by Marcia Dale Weary, a former principal dancer with the Pennsylvania Ballet, with the mission of providing quality ballet training to the youth of Central Pennsylvania. In 1975, CPYB moved into its current building in Carlisle, and in 1979, Weary was appointed as the school’s first artistic director. Under her leadership, CPYB quickly established itself as one of the premier ballet schools in the country.
In 2005, the school was granted full accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Dance, and in 2011, Weary was succeeded by her daughter, Stephanie Wolf, as the school’s artistic director. Under Wolf’s leadership, CPYB has continued to expand its influence, with students performing in prestigious venues around the world.
CPYB offers a comprehensive program of instruction in the art of ballet, including classes in classical technique, pointe work, character dance, variations, repertoire, and more. The school also offers a summer program, which includes classes in ballet, modern, jazz, and contemporary dance, as well as a variety of workshops and master classes.
In addition to its classes, CPYB also offers a variety of performance opportunities for its students, including its annual performance of The Nutcracker, as well as other productions throughout the year. The school also has a professional dance company, which performs throughout the year in various venues in the Central Pennsylvania area.
CPYB’s faculty and staff are highly trained professionals who have extensive experience in the art of ballet. The school’s faculty includes former professional dancers, including many who have danced with major ballet companies around the world. The school’s staff includes a variety of professionals, including a full-time administrative staff and a full-time technical staff.
