Berks Ballet Theatre Conservatory of Dance was founded in 1985 by two professional dancers, Mary and John Smith. The Smiths had a passion for dance and wanted to share their love of the art with the community. They opened Berks Ballet Theatre Conservatory of Dance with the goal of providing quality dance instruction to the Reading community.

The Smiths had a vision of creating a school that would provide a safe and nurturing environment for students of all ages and levels to learn and grow.
