Ballet Spartanburg is a dance company, arts organization, and dance school located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Founded in 1982, Ballet Spartanburg has been producing world-class performances and providing quality dance education to the community for over thirty years.

Mission

Ballet Spartanburg’s mission is to bring the joy of dance to the community. We strive to provide the highest quality of dance education and performance to our students and audiences. We are committed to preserving the art of classical ballet and to creating innovative works that challenge and inspire.

History

Ballet Spartanburg was founded in 1982 by Artistic Director and Choreographer, Susan Alexander. Ms. Alexander was a dancer and teacher with the renowned Joffrey Ballet in New York City. After relocating to Spartanburg, she established Ballet Spartanburg and began teaching classes and producing performances.

Since its inception, Ballet Spartanburg has produced over three hundred performances, including full-length ballets, contemporary works, and original choreography. The company has also presented over five hundred master classes and workshops in the community.

Dance Education

Ballet Spartanburg offers a variety of dance classes for all ages and levels of experience. We offer classes in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, contemporary, and more. Our classes are taught by experienced and qualified instructors who are passionate about sharing their love of dance with students.

We also offer a comprehensive pre-professional program for students who are interested in pursuing a career in dance. Our pre-professional program is designed to help students develop their technical and artistic skills and prepare them for a career in the performing arts.

Performances

Ballet Spartanburg produces a variety of performances throughout the year. Our annual season includes two full-length ballets, a contemporary program, and a variety of special performances. We also produce a variety of educational outreach performances for schools and community organizations.

Community Outreach

Ballet Spartanburg is committed to serving the community. We offer a variety of free and low-cost programs for schools and community organizations, including master classes, workshops, and performances. We also offer scholarships and financial aid to students in need.
