Scoil Rince Breifne O Ruairc was founded in 1992 by Irish stepdance teacher and choreographer, Mary Lou O’Hara. She had been teaching Irish stepdance in the Berkshires since the mid-1980s and wanted to create a school that would help preserve and promote traditional Irish stepdance. She named the school after her hometown in Ireland, Breifne O Ruairc.

Since its inception, Scoil Rince Breifne O Ruairc has grown in size and reputation. The school now offers a variety of classes for all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced dancers. The school also hosts workshops and events throughout the year, including performances and competitions.
