History

The Callanwolde Mansion was built in 1920 by Charles Howard Candler, the son of Coca-Cola magnate Asa Candler. The mansion was designed by architect Philip Shutze in the Georgian Revival style and was the family’s summer home until the 1950s. In 1971, the mansion was deeded to the City of Atlanta and was used as a community center until the late 1990s, when it was renovated and converted into the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.
